◈ Classification of Fire (화재의 분류)

 NFPA는 화재를 A, B, C, D, K로 구분하고 있습니다.

 

 1. Class A fire - Class A fires involve common combustibles such as wood, paper, cloth, rubber, trash, and plastics. They are common in typical commercial and home settings but can occur anywhere these types of materials are found.

 Class A 화재는 목재, 종이, 옷감, 고무 및 플라스틱 등과 관련된 화재며 통상 일반화재로 불리고 있습니다.

 

 

 

2. Class B fire - Class B fires involve flammable liquids, gases, solvents, oil, gasoline, paint, lacquers, tars and other synthetic or oil-based products. Class B fires often spread rapidly and, unless properly secured, can reflash after the flames are extinguished.

 Class B 화재는 가연성 액체, 가스, 유기용제, 기름, 휘발유, 페인트 등의 합성연료나 오일류의 제품과 관련된 화재입니다. Class B 화재는 급속도로 전파되고 화재 진화 후 재발화 하는 등의 특성을 갖고 있습니다.

 

 

3. Class C fire - Class C fires involve energized electrical equipment, such as wiring, controls, motors, data processing panels, or appliances. They can be caused by a spark, power surge, or short circuit and typically occur in locations that are difficult to reach and see.

 Class C 화재는 통전중인 전기시설(이를테면 통신시설, 계장 시스템, 수변전 설비 등)의 화재와 관련이 있습니다. 전기화재는 발화지점의 파악이 어려운 위치에서 발생하는 전기불꽃, 과전압/전류, 단락 등에 의해 발생합니다.

 

4. Class D fire - Class D fires involve combustible metals such as magnesium and sodium. Combustible metal fires are unique industrial hazards that require special dry powder agents to extinguish.

 Class D 화재는 마그네슘, 나트륨과 같은 발화성 금속과 관련된 화재입니다. 발화성 금속의 화재를 소화하기 위해서는 해당 용도에 적합한 특수 분말 소화기를 사용하여야 합니다.

 

5. Class K fire - Class K fires involve combstible cooking media such as oils and grease commonly found in commericial kitchens. The new cooking media formulations used for commercial food preparation require a special food preparation require a special wet chemical extinguishing agent that is specially suited for extinguishing and suppressing these extremely hot fires that have the ability to reflash. 

 Class K 화재는 일반적으로 상업용 주방에서 사용되는 오일류 등과 관련된 화재 입니다. 주방화재를 소화시키기 위해서는 초고온의 주방화재에 적합한 특수 소화약제를 사용하여야 재발화 등의 위험을 막을 수 있습니다.
